MAGIC - Multiple Access with Global Information Control System

The MAGIC System consists of Human Resource, Position Control, Health & Welfare Benefit and Additional Earnings components. All four components integrate with the Budget Development system, providing automated calculation and account distribution of salary and benefit costs. The Human Resource and Position Control components also integrate with the Payroll and Retirement systems.

The Human Resource component provides the ability to store basic employee personal information necessary to employ a person, along with affirmative action, event, medical and checklist information that is defined by the district. The system standards include effective date processing, user access controls, calculation rules, program to program access and multiple levels of function keys.

The Position Control component provides the district with the ability to define, establish and track positions. Salary Schedules may be identified as hourly, daily, monthly or annual and allow definition of contractual rules per specific bargaining units. Work calendars provide additional detail for calculating actual salary and fringe benefit costs. In addition to providing detail position control information related to salary placement, benefits and tracking of FTE, this system allows an employee to be attached to one or more positions with salary automatically calculated and generated into the Payroll system.

The Health & Welfare Benefit component provides a multi-level system for tracking and calculating the cost of health and welfare benefits for employees, vacant positions and retirees. This system allows for health and welfare benefit premiums and cost limits to be maintained at the plan and package level thereby eliminating the need for individual employee record maintenance.

The Additional Earnings component provides a tracking and calculation mechanism for non-position related earnings and stipends.

The MAGIC system also allows for tracking and reporting of Community College Staff Data information. Faculty Assignment information may either be converted or manually entered from a college's Student System. This data is then collected along with information from the MAGIC system on basic employee, EEO, Position and Additional Earnings information to create Fall Collection and Term reports/file submissions to the State Chancellor’s office.
